The One-of-a-Kind Suzuki X-90:
The X-90 stands out as the only "sporty" utility vehicle on the market. Its bulging fenders, 2-seat cockpit, rear spoiler and rounded edges suggest sporty subcompact styling. But the ample ground clearance, high cowl, high driving position, stout rear pillar and tall multipurpose tires suggest SUV or truck.
The X-90, available in 2WD and 4WD, is outfitted with an electronically fuel-injected 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine with 16 valves, producing 95 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 98 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm. Power is transferred by a standard five-speed manual transmission. A four-speed, electronically controlled automatic transmission with overdrive is available on the 4WD model.
Underneath, a rugged separate frame and body construction gives the X-90 a strong platform that contributes to consistent handling and a smooth ride (front, independent MacPherson struts). In back, a solid axle riding on coil springs and precisely located wishbone and trailing links, carefully balances strength, handling and ride. The 66.7-inch wide X-90 rides on an 86.6-inch wheelbase, adding to its agile handling as well as its aggressive appearance. The 4WD model incorporates automatic locking front hubs and a two-speed transfer case for extra traction and performance on rough terrain.
Safety equipment includes driver and passenger air bags, side impact beams and daytime running lights. Also standard are four-wheel anti-lock brakes (ABS). All X-90s offer standard power windows and door locks, T-tops, power steering, tinted glass, tachometer, two-speed wipers with intermittent feature, an interior console with dual cupholders, and P195/65-15 all-season radial tires.
The X-90 4WD adds cruise control, a security alarm system, aluminum-alloy wheels and a deluxe Suzuki by Alpine AM/FM stereo cassette with four speakers. Exterior paint colors include: Midnight Black Metallic, Lava Red, Ultra Blue Metallic, Silver Pearl and Arctic Ice.
